POETRY EDITING
You've spent countless hours with your pencil or keyboard, saying what needs to be said.
Let's make sure the world hears you loud and clear.
WHY HIRE A POETRY EDITOR?
Poets (myself included!) tend to become attached to their work, making it difficult to objectively edit one's own poetry. As my high school English teacher used to tell me, it's important to "cut the umbilical cord" and allow a new pair of eyes to offer suggestions. No matter your audience, you want to publish poetry that is worthy of pride. Allow me to help.

As a poetry editor, my primary job is to enhance your poetic voice. I will follow your lead, remaining true to your style and message as I edit and critique your poems.

I edit poetry both kindly and firmly. I will praise you for what you do well and present you with sensitive feedback concerning areas of improvement (we all have 'em!). After we've worked together, your poetry will be more impactful, more unique, and more you.

During a poetry edit, I will...
-
Analyze how each poem's form, meter, diction, rhyme (or lack of rhyme), and imagery contribute to (or distracts from) the overall effect of the poem.
-
Address word choice and metaphors that are vague, unimpactful, or overused.
-
Identify images that need clarification, or suggest the images be added.
-
Ensure consistency in punctuation within poems and across the collection.
-
Correct mistakes in grammar (depending on the poem's style or voice).
- Invite you to consider each poem more deeply through specific queries.
I didn't know what exactly I was looking for, but [Emily] was able to guide me with a spot-on assessment of what I really needed. I could clearly tell she knew what she was talking about and I felt at ease sharing my collection with her. Her edits, comments, feedback, and advice were incredibly valuable to me! I highly recommend her!
